Thai bourse hosts massive online stock-trading simulation game

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and SETTRADE.Com Co., Ltd. are organizing ‘SET Click2WIN: Thailand Stock Simulation’ to provide practical experience for new and experienced investors, with prizes totaling more than THB 3 million (approx. USD 86,000). The actual competition will be during October and November, but players can preview the game at Money Expo 2007 during May 10 – 13.

Part of SET’s investor base expansion strategy is to make investing much more convenient through online investment, supported by education, promotion and activities from the Exchange and SETTRADE, SET President Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai said.

“SET Click2WIN: Thailand Stock Simulation is a virtual online investment game for both current and novice investors from all over the country. The program’s training, delivered through e-learning, will provide the information and methodology needed to develop quality investors.”

The game, which employs real-time information from the market, is Thailand’s first online stock game open to everybody, SETTRADE Managing Director Ms. Chanisa Chutipat stated.

“SET Click2WIN is a massive simulation which can accommodate well over 10,000 participants. It lasts for nine weeks, and we expect there will be up to 12,000 players competing for about 200 prizes,” Ms. Chanisa said.

Applications to play will be accepted from April 30 – September 30, 2007, with the competition running from October 1 – November 30, 2007, and results to be announced in December.

There will be 2 groups of players — investors and experimenters. ‘Investors’ currently trade securities or have accounts with brokers, while ‘experimenters’ are those who haven’t had a brokerage account but wish to play before making a real investment.

“To encourage internet trading, there will be an incentive for new or inactive investors. If anybody in these two groups wins a prize, the amount they win will be doubled,” Ms. Chanisa added. (New investors are those who open an account during January 3 – September 30, 2007, while inactive ones have an existing internet trading account but did not trade during November 1 – April 30, 2007.)

There are 121 prizes worth about THB 2 million for the ‘investors’ group. The first prize is made up of funds for trading worth THB 50,000 plus a TSI training course worth THB 50,000. There are also 2nd, 3rd and weekly prizes. The 10 weekly winners will each receive THB 5,000 in funds for trading plus a THB 4,000 TSI course.

For ‘experimenters’, the winner will receive funds for trading worth THB 30,000 plus a THB 8,000 TSI course. For this group also there are 2nd, 3rd and weekly prizes. The 10 weekly winners will each receive THB 3,000 in funds for trading plus a THB 2,000 TSI course.
